Ask for the Nations

Genesis 48
And Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession.’”
Now an old man, preparing for his final journey into death, Jacob called for his son. Having inherited Abraham and Isaac’s blessing, he was about to pass on the commanded blessing to his own descendants and future generations.
In the sacredness of those preparations, Jacob recounted God’s word and divine dealings. In the end, I imagine the word of God over our lives will be seen without distraction as the most precious and defining aspect of who we are. Truly, what we think about God is of utmost importance. How we treasure and steward His word will prove to be paramount.
We are but a part of the greater story, an epic tale that began long before us and will continue long after we draw our final breath. We play a small role in a cosmic drama unfolding on Earth. In the grand scope of eternity, we are so small. Yet, God has made our part in His story significant. He has graciously partnered with us, intertwining Himself with our fragility, transforming even our weaknesses into His glory.
God’s blessings and commands carry generational magnitude. Recognizing their true scope brings an end to pride. No man or woman can take credit for their fulfillment. We have the privilege to play our part, but all glory and honor belong to our Heavenly Father. His faithfulness to us is put on display.
Are you still holding onto the words spoken to you years ago? That is wonderful! Do you still treasure what He revealed to you when you were first called? Hallelujah! We will certainly witness partial fulfillment, without a doubt. However, there are things the Lord has entrusted to us that must be handed off—a fulfillment that began with us but will reach complete fruition in the next generation, or even the one after that.
Blessings and commands carry a generational nature. Part of treasuring and stewarding the words God has spoken to us is passing them on as a precious inheritance. His word is more valuable than gold, and if it abides in you, you are truly rich indeed!
