In 2008, God brought intercessors together from all over Colorado Springs and beyond. In what can only be described as a sovereign move of the Spirit, 90 days were set apart for 24/7 worship and prayer. This city hosted the presence of God, and many lives were changed, and hearts were marked.
It all began when a spontaneous prophetic word was released on June 15, 2008: “This is to be a time of great holiness leading to the Great Awakening, a cleansing of the priesthood. This house is prepared, clean, purified. The Ark of the Covenant has come, and I will dwell here. All you need now is to usher in on the shoulders of the clean, purified priesthood My Ark of the Covenant and let it (permanently) dwell in the tabernacle of David 24/7. But first, the Ark was taken to the house of Obed-Edom (on the way to the Tabernacle and remained in his place for 90 days). The next 90 days is going to be such an awesome move of the Spirit of God in this place, 90 days of non-stop glory.”
And it was! Colorado Springs hosted the glory of the Lord for 90 days, and the city is still marked.
After gathering intercessors who were part of those days, we believe we may be coming back full circle, and the Lord is again issuing an invitation to our city to host His presence. Could it be that this time, He will come and stay?
The context for this and all that unfolded during this time was the recognition that as a city, they had dishonored the Lord. One of the largest churches here in Colorado Springs had just gone through a major scandal, and from what I have heard from those who lived through it, there was a very real sense that God had departed from the region.
Maybe because of what many of us are experiencing with the exposure of IHOPKC and the global prayer movement, the context of 2008 and those glory-filled 90 days is not lost on me. We are in the same moment once again, where God is exposing the church in her sin; and exposing the bad theology that would allow for this kind of breach. Many are grieving, not just in one city this time, but all around the world.
We are in a similar moment.
As I was reading through our chapters this morning, this stood out to me:
Ezekiel 5 11 Therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will withdraw. My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity.
As it turns out, God’s presence, hosting God’s presence, isn’t as elusive as it seems. There aren’t magical portals.
It comes down to this. If we will stop defiling His house and quit our detestable practices, if we will repent of our abominations, and seek Him, He will return to us. If we will allow Him to search our hearts, He will indeed purify us. The Lord isn’t attracted by our lights and screens. The Father is searching for a people who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. That’s it.
Even writing this, my heart is stirred with great hope and expectation. Our God is not unpleasable. He doesn’t desire to be far off. No! He longs for a people. He wants His full inheritance in us.
I’m believing for God to come once again to Colorado Springs, and this time, I’m praying He never leaves. If you are here, join us on Friday, April 5, at 7 pm. We’re gathering because we want Him here. We need Him here. Here’s the event link.
Wherever you are reading from today, my prayer for you and your city is that you would be a hosting place for His glory. In your homes, around your table, in your church, and all throughout your city.
Our God is so good, and His mercy endures forever.
