(Leviticus 1-3, Matthew 24:23-51)

[42] Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. (Matthew 24:42 ESV)

Jesus never exaggerates. He never embellishes. He always tells us the truth. When speaking with his disciples, discussing the things to come, specifically the signs of the end of this age, Jesus warned them to stay awake. How much more should we regard this warning today?

No doubt, you can recount many who have fallen away from their faith. It’s not hard to remember the ones who started their faith with us, but who have entered into some kind of slumber. They used to attend every prayer meeting, and talked endlessly about Jesus and what His Spirit was doing. Now, many of these have lost their flame. Their love for God has grown cold. Make no mistake, their theology may still be in tact, but their fire has all but gone out.

Jesus warned us plainly that this would mark the end times. He did not mislead us. If we are honest, many of us might be willing to admit that we are dosing off. Our own limbs have grown heavy and our thinking is cloudy.

It’s time to wake up! Rouse yourself. Shake yourself out of the dust and throw of this creeping dreariness. Wake up! Jesus is coming and He is coming soon. Stop pressing the snooze button. He’s nearer than you think! It’s time for us all to wake up.
