There is a tendency in every fallen nature, to want to be THE guy. “The anointed man or woman of the hour.” “God’s anointed oracle.” This is utterly common, utterly human, and utterly fallen. In a nutshell, it’s nothing more than pride.
Real apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists will not ultimately pull attention or allegiance to themselves. No! They have been given as gifts to the Body of Christ for unity of the faith. They have been appointed to bring the Body into the full stature of Christ.
We must learn how to discern who has been given as a gift from Christ to His church, and who has appointed themselves. As they say, the proof is in the pudding. Moses was not jealous when others prophesied. He expressed a desire that the whole assembly would receive the outpouring of God’s Spirit.
May this be said us! May we be servant leaders. May we instruct, prophesy, shepherd, lead… all for the glory of Jesus and not our own honor. May those we are discipling go further, deeper and higher into the heart of God than we have gone. Father, pour out your Spirit on your church…on the whole assembly. Raise up your Bride into full stature!
