(Exodus 22-23, Matthew 20:17-34)
…“But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26-28 ESV)
The context of this passage is in reference to Jesus being asked about the seats of preeminence and authority in the Kingdom to come. He’s answering here about the age to come. To Jesus, this coming reality is more real, more permanent, than the one we are living in now. It’s unshakeable. It’s eternal. And as His followers, He points us to it. He invites us to live according to it.
Many grow discouraged in their serving. They have gone low, they have humbled themselves, and there is no greatness… just more humiliation. When will this “greatness” appear? When will the Words of Jesus come to pass? Friends, we need to take a longer view. We need an eternal mindset. The reward is with Jesus, and will appear when He comes.
I see many who are blessed now, and have achieved great things now. It’s true. But I also see many dear saints, who have not seen breakthrough in some areas. Don’t despair! Be faithful. Give your heart to Jesus, to His words. He’s not lying, or misleading us. Stay low. He will raise you up. Not everything that can be seen is seen right now. Take a longer view. Stay faithful. Jesus is Faithful and True.
