(Genesis 20-22, Matthew 7)

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:25 ESV)

There is a version of Christianity today that claims fair weather all the time. It claims a problem-free, easy life. However, our Jesus never made such claims. He promised us bad weather… difficult times.

Christ does not promise us a life without trouble, rather He tells us where and how to stand in the midst of trouble. He teaches us how to build our lives on the rock.

Many are disappointed in Christ. They feel He has let them down. To that, I say, read the text again. Who told you it was going to be easy? Not Jesus! Jesus never promised an easy road. The Good News is not about an easy road… the Good News is that Jesus can sustain us. Jesus can save and deliver us. Though the rains fall and the floods come, the love of Christ will preserve us.

Don’t give up! Don’t lose heart. Found your life on The Rock! Jesus won’t buckle under the pressure. He can be counted on. He’s more than a fair-weather friend. He has not left you. Open your eyes! If you are in the midst of a storm and soaked through… just open your eyes! He’s right beside you.
