(Genesis 27-28, Matthew 9:18-38)
May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” (Genesis 28:4 ESV)
Hearing promises and taking possession are two different realities. Many people can quote the scriptures, in fact, even demons believe! But demons will never inherit the promise. To inherit the promise you must do more than believe. You must submit. You must walk into it. To possess the promise will take effort.
Today, when we talk about effort, many are quick to refute it. They claim grace, as if grace nullifies our need to respond… our need to submit… our need to follow.
Jesus was not wrong when he called us to love with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul and even all our strength. God calls us to yield in every way. He wants every aspect of our lives engaged with Him.
Jesus’ promises are “yes and amen.” The scriptures tell us so plainly. But who will believe Him? Abraham has gone ahead, Isaac has passed before us, and Jacob had his day. Now it is our time. It’s our turn to believe those promises and set out on our own journey of faith. Don’t let any doctrine or theology discourage you from setting out. The adventure of following Jesus is the inheritance of promise. It’s time to go!
