(1 Chronicles 8-10, John 8:37-59)
Now these, the singers, the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. (1 Chronicles 9:33)
There was a time in our history when singing to God 24 hours a day was considered the best defense against the schemes of the enemy. Did you know that throughout Jewish history it is recorded that when the house of prayer was in operation that the nation of Israel had rest from their enemies on all sides? Coincidence? Absolutely not!
The Lord’s presence is a refuge. The Lord’s presence is our upholder. The Lord’s presence is our great defense. The most practical protection against terrorism and war is spiritual! We have lost the art of worship. We have forgotten the call to gather to pray. We have numbed ourselves with entertainment. We have disregarded our God. How then can we be saved?
Turn back! Turn back!! Remember your first love. Lift your voice to God who hears and the God who acts. Sing to the One who is holy and worthy. Break up all the hard ground of your own heart once again. Incline your ear to the whisper of your God. Humble yourself. Pray. Our God will hear, and He will heal our land.
