(1 Samuel 27-29, Luke 17:1-19)
So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’ (Luke 17:10)
Have we truly died to the world? Have we learned how to deny ourselves not once, but daily? Have we forsaken all of our rights, to be counted as a slave to righteousness, a servant of Christ?
We have been set free! We no longer have to live for ourselves. We no longer need to make our own way. We are free to serve the least of these. Free to honor our brothers, considering them higher than ourselves. We are free! We are free to lay our lives down. We are free to be disregarded, and unappreciated. It makes no eternal difference.
We are free! We have our eyes set on another horizon… namely the age to come. We are free to go low and lower still, because this life isn’t the end, only the beginning. Don’t let your mind be troubled by what seems unjust. Don’t throw a temper tantrum at what appears unfair. Do what the Lord commands you because He’s worthy! Period. Consider it pure joy to be able to obey. This is the reward! He is the reward!!
