(Genesis 42-43, Matthew 13:33-58)
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (Matthew 13:44 ESV)
The earthly ministry of Jesus is power. He healed, He delivered… and He taught on the Kingdom of Heaven: The reality of His reign coming into the earth. Jesus tells us how His kingdom operates, how it manifests. It’s like leaven, it’s like the smallest seed… in other words, it may look small, even insignificant, but it will grow and even take over.
Jesus also describes the value of His kingdom. It’s like treasure, like a pearl of great price. When one discovers it, selling everything is a completely reasonable response. In fact, the value is so great selling everything to acquire the Kingdom is the deal of a lifetime.
How do we enter into the Kingdom? Jesus must be recieved as the treasure of heaven and earth. What do we offer? All of our heart, mind, soul and strength!
No more half-hearted responses to the Gospel! No, He is our treasure. In joy, let’s go trade our lives and all that we hold dear, for the sake of the treasure we have found in Jesus. He is more precious than silver. He is more costly than gold. He is more beautiful than diamonds. Nothing we desire can compare to Him.
