(Leviticus 4-6, Matthew 25: 1-30)

The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it and shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out. (Levisticus 6: 12-13 ESV)

Many people diminish the Old Testament, claiming that we as believers are no longer under the yoke of the law. And this is true, hallelujah! We are free! However, the New Testament is all about fulfillment… fulfillment of the law, fulfillment of the promise, and fulfillment of the (Messianic) types.

Jesus is our high priest! Blameless, spotless Jesus! And we, His followers, are called into this same priesthood: The Priesthood of all believers. To come into the fullness of our calling, we must understand something of the priesthood that’s been passed down through the ages.

We, as priests, are responsible to keep the fire burning on the altars of our own hearts. We must tend to the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our own lives. Daily we arrange the pieces of our lives before the Lord. We tend the fire of His presence. We regard Him.   We tend to Him. We steward the flame that we have been given, that the fire in our own lives would not go out. Keep watch. Stir up the flame.
