(Ezra 3-5, John 20)

21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” (John 20:21-23)

What responsibility has been entrusted to us! We are being sent JUST AS Jesus was sent by the Father. Think about that! He has given us His Holy Spirit and commissioned us with His message, namely the message of forgiveness, the memorandum of reconciliation.

The sending, the infilling and the message are all bound together. We cannot be sent without the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And we can’t receive the Person of the Holy Spirit without receiving His announcement of reconciliation. And we can’t take this commissioning to forgive and then remain holed up in our hermit huts; we must go.

We are sent out in power! We are sent with the grace to forgive. The ministry of Jesus continues through us. Forgive. Release people from the shame and guilt of sin, and they will be forgiven! You have Good News. Shout it from the rooftops!
