(Genesis 46-48, Matthew 14:22-36)
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. (Matthew 14:28, 29 ESV)
Miracles follow the Word of the Lord. The supernatural proceeds from the command of God. Peter knew water would become more dense than any hard packed earth, if Jesus commanded him to come to Him. His faith wasn’t in his own faith… Peter’s faith was rooted in the command of the Lord.
I know there are many preachers who malign Peter. After all, he took a few steps and then lost sight of the word, and sank into to water. To that I say, at least he got out of the boat! He was learning how to live into the command. I believe that when Jesus went to rest his head that night, He remembered Peter. And He was pleased with his faith, his boldness. He was pleased even though he faltered.
If we can learn to live our lives in response to the command of God, we will see miracles. We don’t need to spend our lives chasing the supernatural. The scriptures tell us plainly, that signs will follow us!
How then shall we live? By every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)
