(Joshua 23-24, Luke 6:27-49)
“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. (Luke 6:27,28)
The word “radical” today has come to mean something synonymous with terrorism. For instance, instead of saying that Islam has brainwashed a people, we say that its proponents have been radicalized. Radical = Terror.
Radical means: Implanted by nature; native; constitutional (Webster’s Dictionary, 1828). Christianity, our devotion to worship AND follow Christ, yielding to His teachings, is nothing short of radical. The result of our obedience will produce something so far different in its nature than radical Islam, namely peace! And this peace is costly.
We are called to love! Love is the most radical force in the universe. The call of God on our lives is not just our commitment to simply being better versions of ourselves. No! The call of Jesus is to deny ourselves and to live a life of surrender. Jesus calls us to love our enemies. He calls us to bless those who curse us. He calls us to pray for those who abuse us!
How does love flow? Only through yieldedness. How does love flow? Only through surrendered saints. Taking vengeance on our enemies isn’t radical. It’s natural. But love… love only comes from God. Be radical!
