(Numbers 14-15, Mark 6:1-32)
Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned, according to your word.” (Numbers 14:20 ESV)
“We have been seated with Christ in heavenly places.” “We are hidden now in Christ.” “It is Christ who lives in us.” These are the statements of faith handed down through the ages, written in the epistles of our Holy Bible. And what glorious statements! They speak of intimacy and partnership with God.
Have we learned how to come into their experience? In other words, have we lived them? Moses was invited into the same experience. As he was leading the Israelites out of the bondage of Egypt, there were many trials. The people complained about Moses, but ultimately they grumbled against God. Many times as leaders we have our ears tuned to the perspective of the people around us, but God’s leaders must have their ears tuned in to the Lord.
Numbers 14 records one of the most phenomenal dialogues in all the scriptures between God and Moses. (Read it!!) Moses reminds God about His character… He reminds Him of His Word. And the Lord responds. He relents. He pardons Israel.
Oh, the place we have been given in the heart of the Lord! He has positioned us to move His heart. Let’s not shrink back. Let’s intercede with the Lord on behalf of our generation. He will allow Himself to be moved by us. What other encouragement do we need?
